The deputy-medical superintendent, Dr. C. B. Gilberd, recommended the appointment of a transport officer at the Auckland Hospital in the interests of economy and efficiency. He said the managing secretary of St. John Ambulance Association, Mr. S. E. Langstone, had informed him that the association would be prepared to supply a suitable officer and pay his salary for a trial period. It was decided to ask Dr. Gilberd and Mr. Langstone to attend a meeting of the board's finance committee to discuss the problem. The board authorised the writing off of fees amounting to £30,725. This sum included £16,119 in reduction of fees owing by patients, and total remissions amounting to £14,606. The board was advised of a be--Buest under the will of Mr. C. H. wens, of Auckland, retired farmer, whose death occurred on Oct. 2. The bequest is for £200 free of duty to endow a bed in the Princess Mary Wards for Children. A condition is that a plate shall be attached with the words: "The Charles Henry Owens' Cot." The board is also to share in the residue of the estate.
