NEW HOSTEL
SCHOOLGIRLS' NEEDS*
PROPERTY AT EPSOM
There has been opened this week a hostel for pupils of the Epsom (xit ls Grammar School in a property which adjoins tlie school. Originally the house, and its spacious grounds rilled with lovely old trees, was the home of the late Mr. .lames Stewart, and the family lived there for many years. It was through Miss C. M. Stewart, the last member of the family living in the house, that the Grammar School Board was able to acquire the old homestead as a hostel.
At the present time there are ten girls in the hostel, and preparations are in hand to accommodate IK next year. A building project for a separate block to hold more cubicles will admit many more girls, and then the old building.will become an administrative block.
The school has a large country connection of about 110 to 120 girls each year, which numbers undeniably point to the necessity for a school hostel.
Already the grounds are being cultivated for hostel needs, and homegrown vegetables will be available for use this season.
