"DEFINITELY ON "
M.T.P.—RICHMOND GAME
REPLY TO CAPTAIN TODD
"As far as the League is concerned the maicii between M.T.I', and Richmond Is definitely on. notwithstanding Captain Todd's statement." said Mr. .1. W. Watson, . hairman of the Auckland Rugbv League Hoard of Control to-day. "I would like to point out that M.T.I' men are Rugby League I'lavers.
"We know." a.Tded Mr. Watson, "that the team is still anxious to play tlws game. The only changed unforeseen circumstance' we know of since Captain Todd finalised arrangements with myself, as chairman of the Rugby League, is that a representative Rugby l.'nion match has been arranged for Saturday, and that five players of the M.T.P.' team have been selected for the Auckland Reps. It is important to bear in mind, that this is an Auckland Rttgbv Union representative team and hot a militarv team.
"We know of no authority that any military officer has. empowering him to determine the code of foothall. soldiers under his command should play when away from military duties." said Mr. Watson. "As members of the M.T.P. team have been available to play Rugby I'nion foothall every Saturday of the past season, we can only presume that there should he no military duties to interfere with tlie personnel of the team playing the game thev desire on any one particular Saturday."
