OBITUARY
MRS. MARY PEBBLES Mrs. Mary Peebles, aged 93, died at the home of her daughter in Parnell. Mrs. Peebles was born at Howiek. Her father, Mr. James Winepress, was a master tailor for the Indian Army, and. was one of the original settlers in Howick. At the age of 19 Mrs. Peebles married Mr. John Sherry, who died 52 years ago. Ten years after his death she married Mr. J. Peebles, of East Tamaki, and took up residence in Sydney. Mrs. Peebles returned to Auckland in 1928 and is survived by three sons, one daughter, 28 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
MRS. SUSAN CLARK
The death has occurred of Mrs. Susan Clark, aged 94, of Auckland. Mrs. Clark was born at Russell, Bay of Islands, and was the last surviving member of the family of Mr. and Mrs. J. Tyler, who also came of pioneer families of the north. Mrs. Clark lived for 15 years in England with her husband, who was engaged in the India trade. After their return to New Zealand her husband traded at Rarotonga. Mrs. Clark was predeceased by her husband some years ago and is survived by three daughters, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
NATIONAL PARTY WOMEN
Speaking at the monthly meeting of the Women's Organisation, Mrs. B. Wilson, Bay of Plenty, vice-presi-dent, gave a talk on the problems of women living and rearing a family in the backblocks. She advocated the extension of such amenities as electricity and electrical appliances; also advanced technical education to these outer districts so that the best use could be made of all the resources of New Zealand.
