MILITARY APPEALS

NO. 2 BOARD SITTING

Appeals in respect of military serv'o« were dealt with at a sitting of the No. 2 Armed Forces Appeal Board, presided over by Mr. H A Anderson.

An adjournment sine die was granted in the case of the following appeals by or on behalf of reservists: Cecil William Marshall (appeal by Donaghy's Rope and Twine Co., Ltd.); Marton Sommerville Rennie, Gordon Stewart Mason (Stonex Bros.); George Selwyn Turner (Turners and Growers, Ltd.); Leslie James Smith (A. Barclay, Ltd.); Henry Gordon Sime (Colonial Sugar Refining Co., Ltd.); Eric Wiggins (J. C. Wiggins). An adjournment to a later date was granted in the following appeals on behalf of reservists: Harold Green (John W. Andrews and Sons, Ltd.); Keith John Munro (J. Wiseman and Sons, Ltd.); Cecil Herring Cairns (Cairns and Woodward, Ltd.); Maurice Edmund Thomas (A. E. Thomas); Walter James Leslie Ryan, James Walker Dewar and Roy Conrad Henderson (Transport Bus Service); Herbert Victor Parker (Auckland Master Builders' Association); David Leonard Rhodes (Westonhouse Radio, Ltd.). In dismissing the appeal of Ward Bros. Footwear, Ltd., on behalf of Gustavus Alfred Hawkes, the board made an order that the reservist be not called up before December 1.

The following appeals on behalf of reservists were dismissed: Henry Edward Josephs (Taupo Totara Timber Co.); Stanley Stewart (G. R. Young and Co.); F. A. W. Crabb (Mrs. Crabb). The board recommended the release of Joseph Sunjich from camp. The reservist, who held the rank of sergeant, stated that he was making the application because of his wife's health. He served in,the last war, and, at the outbreak of the present war, joined the National Military Reserve, and was called up for service.

Lieutenant Hart, representing the army, said that, speaking unofficially, he considered the reservist had done his share and there should be no difficulty in granting him release.
