PUPILS' HOLIDAYS

DIFFERENCE IiKI WKKX SCHOOL "There should be no discrimination between secondary departments of district high schools and the established secondary schools and technical colleges." said Mr. G. K. Hamilton, in referring to the matter of holidays at this morning's meeting of flip Auckland Education Board.

Mr. Hamilton urged that the holidays should be the same for each type of school, but, the difficulty was that in district, high schools, primary pupils would have to return to school a week earlier than secondary pupils, and teachers would be inconvenienced.

The members agreed that secondary school holiday's should not, be reduced, since adolescent children needed the rest from homework, and the mental and physical strain of that, period of their growth.

It was also urged that the capitation grant for school committees' expenses should he the same for both secondary departments of high schools ' and secondary schools proper. The board decided to write the Education Department, making these requests, though, as the chairman, Mr. V.\ J. Campbell, pointed out. they had already been made in former years.
