TOMATO DISTRIBUTION
SUCCESS IN BRITAIN British Official Wireless Rec. 1 p.m. RUGBY, Oct. 6. The Ministry of Food plans this season to ensure the orderly distribution of 60,000 tons of tomatoes, Lord Woolton said, and 102,000 shops had received fairly regular suplies, even in the Orkneys and Shetlands. An average of 151b per head had been distributed. The scheme had been worked voluntarily and conditional selling and black marketing had faded out. It was the first attempt made in this, or any other, country to control the distribution of a highly-perishable crop.
