MYTHICAL RATIONS

The statement by the Minister of Defence to the effect that when Home Guardsmen are required 16 parade for a period of six bom's or longer they are provided with rations (or an allowance in lieu at same), is certainly not the case as te as Auckland units concerned. -I have served with the Home Gfl«d for close on two years, and ham never yet been issued with rations in any shape or form, although oar parades always extend over seven and a half hours. Even wStft engaged on defence work, such as digging weapon"sts, wiring or building road blocks, tfe'. have had to provide not only oar own rations, but also our do spades, shovels, picks, etc., and'M allowance has ever been made by'tte authorities for wear and tear on oo own clothing and footwear wMk engaged on this work. Whifc anomalies such as these could fie excused in the early days of the organisation it is very hard- to understand why they are allowed to' persist after three years of war. ~ C. STUART.
