FORGERY DETECTED
U.S. 10-DOLLAR NOTE Following on the detection of a counterfeit American 10-dollar note at a Wellington bank, banks throughout New Zealand have been instructed to scrutinise carefully all American notes presented. An official of the Bank of New Zealand in Auckland stated to-day, however, that only one counterfeit note had been detected in New Zealand, and it was considered that this had been brought into this country by some one who thought it was a genuine note.
The forgery, it is stated, has been cleverly executed, and the note in question requires to be inspected most carefully to distinguish it from the genuine note. It appears to have been produced by photographic process, and is darker in colour than the genuine note, while the portrait, the central feature, is indistinct, whereas in the genuine bill, it stands out distinctly from the background.
