APPEAL CASE
CONVICTION UPHELD
PITT STREET PREMISES
A decision was given by Mr. Justice Smith to-day in the appeal of Percy Norman Wright (Mr. Hall Skelton and Mr. G. Skolton' against conviction by Air. F. 11. LevienTs.M., on a charge that being the occupier of premises in Pitt Street, he knowingly permitted part of them to be used as a brothel.
_ After Mr. V. R. Meredith, for the Crown, had replied to the legal argument raised for the defence, his Honor reviewed the facts and law, and said he had come to the conclusion that the Crown had established that not onlv were the premises used habitually for the purposes of prostitution, but also that the appellant, notwithstanding a facade of responsibility which he endeavoured to create, had knowingly permitted the premises to be used as a brothel. The appeal would be dismissed and the conviction confirmed. His Honor also confirmed the magistrate's sentence of three months' imprisonment.
