LABOUR DAY
HOLIDAY IN INDUSTRY
APPROVED BY CABINET
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. War Cabinet has approved the recommendation from the Supply Council that Labour Day this year be observed as a holiday throughout industry generally, according to an announcement by the Minister of Supply and Munitions. Mr. Sullivan, and the Minister of Labour, Mr. Webb, to-day. The Ministers stated that after examining the matter from several angles, the War Cabinet had decided that, the long week-end provided by Labour Day, falling as it, did on the Monday, would have a beneficial effect upon war production, rather than detracting from it. Where workers arc called upon to work on Labour Day they should, of course, be paid the appropriate holiday rates, the Ministers added.
