MOUNT EDEN BOWLERS
Owing to war conditions, the usual official opening of the Mount Eden Bowling Club was replaced by an Informal one. The president, Mr. W. J. Gatenby, in a speech of welcome, referred to tne club's formation In 1896. He then called upon Mr. C. Brookes, the club's first secretary, to open the season by throwing ?» kitty and bowling the first bowl —■Mr. Brookes using a silver-mounted "Owl he won in a club competition in 1898. The Auckland Centre was represented by Mr. W. H. Tongue, who skipped ■ team against the president. The result a drawn game—l 6 points each. An interesting game of past and present veteran players was skipped by Mr. Hooper and Mr. J. Smith.
