YOUNG CITIZENS
SALVATION - ARMY EFFORT "As part of its contribution to the campaign for Christian Order in New Zealand the Salvation Army is applying itself more vigorously to the task of youth guidance and training," said Commissioner J. Evan Smith, the army's commander in the Dominion, at a meeting in Auckland yesterday. A national youth council has been set up in Wellington, and youth boards in the provincial centres, he said. The new movement would have for its aims the teaching of good citizenship, self control, unity of mind, and. the winning of the young people for Christ. The activities would include hobbies, outdoor and indoor recreations, a literary class, a discussion circle, classes to teach Christian ethics, camps and rallies.
"The great aim," said the Commissioner, "is to organise and direct ihe energies of young people in the purposeful paths of Christian usefulness so that they may become worthy citizens of the Dominion."
