Meredith, on behalf of the Crown, and after the defendants had pleaded guilty, asked for an adjournment because of an agreement or compact made between the Government and the miners' representatives. Mr. Meredith, In making the application, said he had been instructed to make it clear that the Government recognised that irt making such an arrangement it had no power to bind or even to influence the Court in the exercise of its judicial discretion.
