FANCY PRICES
RECTIFIED SPIRIT NEW LIQUOR PROBLEM (0.C.) SYDNEY, Sept. 28. It appears that as a result of the growing scarcity of all kinds of liquor, both beer and spirits, some people are now going to chemists to concoct some kind of a brew for them. At a recent suburban party, the liquor consisted of rectified spirit, essence of lemon and some colouring matter, for which the chemist who made it up charged 6/6. Rectified spirit has very harmful effects if taken in large quantities. It is stated that racketeers are getting hold of it, breaking it down with water and charging fancy prices for the resulting white spirit which they sell under various names.
