IS TIME RIPE?

ELECTION ISSUE

MR. HOLLAND'S VIEW

P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day

"The basis for the postponement of the general election has disappeared," declared the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Holland, when questioned about the possibility of an election. "There is no justification for the Government carrying on as a party Government, and an election should be held as soon as the war situation permits," said Mr. Holland, who suggested that it should be held in about three months' time.

Mi-. Holland's statement was brought to the notice of the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser. this afternoon, states the Star's Wellington correspondent. Mr. Fraser thought the question raised would no doubt be the subject of discussion during the coming session of Parliament. "1 quite frankly admit." he added, "that the war and our war effort occupy a much more urgent and important place in my own thoughts. Apparently, however, Mr. Holland considers the moment opportune to di-op the mask and reveal the real reason for the recent resignations. He had proclaimed his attitude as one of high principle, but now it appeal's to have dwindled into mere petty partv opportunism. I envy Mr. Holland's confident, prophetic forecast as to the war conditions in three months' time, but with a full knowledge of recent developments, particularly in the Pacific. 1 can only indicate that I do not share that confidence."
