E.P.S. GRANT TO OFFICIAL
U.S.A. VOICKH PKOTKST The alleged action of the Auckland Metropolitan Kmergency Precautions Service in granting its former chief executive officer, Mr. K. L. I.'smar. three months' leave on full pay, a sum of over £100, was the subject of protest at a meeting of the committee of the Auckland Returned Services' Association. As a result, a letter has been forwarded to the Chief Warden, Mr. J. A. ('. Allum. by the president of the association, Mr, J. W. Kendall. This states:—"The moneys required for K.P.S. purposes are subscribed, pro rata, by the various local bodies, and this has meant, in almost every district. an increase in rates. For this reason my committee contends that 4 tho expenditure of the K.P.S. should 'be governed by the most punctilious circumspection, but that has not occurred in this case. Mr. Usmar did not resign from his position with the K.P.S. on account of the termination of the engagement, on account of illhcalth. or in order to enter a military service; he was merely stepping almost at once into another, and I understand a higher-paid, position. I'nder these circumstances it is considered that such a payment to him was unwarranted, no matter how valuable Mr. Usmar's previous .services may have been."
liesolutions supporting the protest of the U.S.A. against the grant of £90 to Mr. I'smar from the Patriotic Council have been passed by the Tamaki Kx-Kervicemen's Association, the W'aiuku Returned Services' Association and the British I ,egion.
