ENGINEERS' CORPS
HOME SERVICE UNIT t GRADE I. MION'S TRANSFER (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. No more Grade I. men will be posted to the Defence Engineer Service Corps, and those already in the unit will be transferred to other units composed of Grade I. men training for overseas service, it was announced by the Southern Military District Headquarters this morning. The Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones, when he announced the formation of the corps in March, said that if sufficient men were not obtained by the volunteer system, suitable men from other sources, for example, men already in the Territorial Force, who had been called up by ballot, would be posted to the corps. Following the announcement recently that all Grade I. men would be grouped for overseas service, the position of the Defence Engineer Service Corps required clarification as it was formed for defensive work in the Dominion.
