) NEW LYNX BOROUGH COUNCIL t The Mayor, Mr. S. W. Rickards. presided over . the monthly meeting of the council, i Fruitvalc Road Passenger Station. —A communication was received from the Minister of Railways x advising that the request for the establishment oi a passenger station in the vicinity of the Fruitvale Road crossing was receiving consideration of the Department, and a reply would be for'warded as soon as possible. Soldiers On Trains. —The council was advised that the protest received regarding the action of the military authorities in refusing to grant i soldiers on leave the privilege of travelling either ) by bus or train had been noted, and had been placed before the Minister of Defence. Waste Rubber Collection.—Councillor McWhirter, chairman of the works committee, reported ' that a waste rubber drive on the previous Saturday l had resulted in a very satisfactory collection. It was possible to cover only one-hall of the district on that day, and it was proposed to { canvass the rest of the district next SaturdayRegistration Of Cycles.—ln view of the preval- ► £ n 9® °* cycling on footpaths and cycling without lights at night, it was decided to give public notice requiring cyclists to register their bicycles within fourteen days from date, and also to advertise that it is the council's intention to prosecute offenders caught riding on footpaths or without lights in future. Rate Collections.—The treasurer's report stated that collections of 1942-43 rates to the final discount date totalled £0151. which with rebate • represented a collection of 62.47 per cent of the i : rales levied, as against 02.35 per cent for the ; j previous financial year. The next highest collection in the past ten years was in 1939-40. wh?u the collection totalled 58.41 per cent. Accounts 1 for payments totalled £6780 14 4; the net debit 1 balance in the district fund at August 31 was stated at £130 0 9. Milk Deliveries.—The council instructed Its representatives on the Western Suburbs Milk Delivery Committee to oppose any attempt to force front gate delivery on the residents of the district. It was pointed out that endeavours were being made to create the impression that deliveries in the district were subject to the decisions of the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council, and that in one a roundsman had informed a consumer that Tront gate deliveries were introduced by order of the manpower officer. The Mayor stated that no such direction had been received from the manpower officer, and that deliveries in t.he district were controlled solely by the Western Suburbs Milk Delivery Committee. ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL The monthly meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council was presided over by the Mayor. Mr. J. Park. Milk Delivery.—The council resolved to support the protest of the Auckland Suburban Bodies' Association against front gate delivery. Increased Payments to Hospital Boards. —The council decided to make representations to the Minister of Health for a substantial increase in the payments to Hospitel Boards from the Social Security Fund in order to give some measure of relief to local bodies. Auckland Engineering School. —The Council agreed to support a request to the New Zealand University Senate that full status be given to the Auckland School. At the present time students to obtain the bachelor of ensineering degree must take the final year at Canterbury School although the same facilities for training exist at Auckland. E.P.S. Levy.—The council's contribution of £3525 was ordered to be paid. Buildings.—Permits to the value of £1670 have been issued during the past month. OTAHUHU BOROUGH COUNCIL The Mayor. Mr. C. R. Petrie. M.P.. presided at the monthly meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council which was one of the lengthiest held for a number of years. Plunket Society.—A grant of £5 5/ was made to the local branch of the society. Hospital Taxation.—ln response to a letter from the Waikato Hospital Board the council decided to support, the proporsd conference at which the incidence of hospital taxation could be fully investigated. Frcnt Gate Milk Delivery.—The council declined to support a protest against front gate milk delivery Emergency Precaution Scheme Expenditure.—lt was decided to support action to obtain submission of proposed expendtiuie for 1943. Clean-up Week. —The borough engineer reported that he had made arrangements to hold the annual "clean-up week" commencing on October 12 instead of in December as in past years.
