NAZI AERIAL TORPEDO

New Type Weapon Used Against Convoy To Russia

The German planes which attacked the last convoy carrying British and American supplies to Russia used a new type of aerial torpedo, according to Rear-Admiral Boddam-Wetham, commodore of the convoy. Reporting this the Herald Tribune correspondent in Moscow says that, instead of launching the torpedoes directly amidships in the convoy, the enemy planes descended low over the water and discharged their torpedoes 1000 yards awav. The torpedoes were so adjusted that they followed a circular course with the circle becoming constantly smaller until the torpedoes were in the midst of the ships.

The new weapon is designed to make a ship's evasive action more difficult.

FORGOT DIFFERENCES

This comment is made by an American United Press correspondent, James Hewlett, writing from somewhere in New Guinea.

"The soldiers of each country now glowingly praise their allies," Mr. Hewlett reported, "while American Air Force officers say. ' If the Australian bomber pilots were any better they would be perfect.' "
