Heavy Struggle To Relieve Leningrad Garrison

Rer. 2 p.m. LONDON, Sept. 28. There are two battles for Stalingrad, says The Times Moscow correspondent—the battle of the houses and the hattle of the approaches. Uig battles are raging between German tanks and Russian artillery in the fields, gardens and broad roads at the city's edge. Sometimes as many as 100 tanks are involved.

Heavy lighting, much of which is trench warfare on the Flanders pattern, Is reported in the Leningrad area, at Lake Ilmen, north-west, west and south-west of Moscow, at Voronezh and south of Novorossisk, and also In the Mosdok area, in the eastern Caucasus.

According to Russian reports little territory lias changed hands in any of these sectors. The Paris radio, however, declared that the Germans have occupied Sinyavino, south-east of Leningrad, and also that one German column in the Caucasus lias now passed Mosdok.

The Moscow radio said Russian tanks on the Voronezh front killed over UH) Germans and smashed up pillboxes and also gun positions. Armoured units made a thrust into tin' German defences.
