MEDALS BOUGHT
JEWELLER PROSECUTED TECHNICAL. OFFENCE Because a Karangahape Road jeweller bought four war medals he was prosecuted on summons in the Police Court to-day for a breach of the Military Decorations and Distinctive Ba'dges Regulations. Defendant was Ernest Maud : for whom Mr. Wilkin appeared and pleaded guiltv to a charge or unlawfully parchasing four military medals. Detective-Sergeant Trethewey said that on August 26 the widow of a soldier who died during the last war sold a quantity of old jewellery to defendant. This included four-war medals of the South African aid Great Wars. Mr. .Maud entered the particulars of the purchase in his second-hand book. "Mv client is a jeweller of some standing and he bought the medals not as medals. They were included in the jewellery. He accepted theni in ignorance." "said Mr. Wilkin. "He made no attempt to conceal the transaction, which was properly «■ tered in his books. He was not aroe it was an offence, but it was aJßefr nical offence. Few people rafise that it is even an offence»agaiMlrtte regulations to give a medal awq.
