AIRMAN'S PROMOTION
SQUADRON-LEADER COATES
COMPANION MISSING
Cable advice has been received by Mr. and Mrs. G. P. Coates, of Auckland, that their eon. FlightLieutenant "Reg" Coates, has been promoted to squadron leader. Squadron Leader Coates, who is only 21 years old, was one of five New Zealanders who took part in the successful paratroop raid on a German radio location station near Le Harve last February. Another New Zealander In the raid was "Jimmy" Munro, who was Squadron Leader Coates' closest school day 3' companion and who had been his close companion in air force exploits until he recently was reported missing. 'Reg" Coates was educated at Northcote High and Auckland Grammar Schools. His elder brother. Jack, is also in the R.N.Z.A.F. Both his mother and father are veterans of the last war., Hla father, once again in uniform in New Zealand, was a Main Body man with the Mounted Rifles, while Mrs. Coates served as a nurse in England and in France.
