TOWN HALL MEETING
With the frenzy of Dervishes, three reverend gentlemen regaled the Town Hall gathering held on Sunday with a horrid picture of Auckland as a modern Babylon.. They alleged that the real cause of it all is booze, and the way of salvation is the abolition of the booze traffic for the duration of the war and a plebiscite on the matter when the war is over. Let us be honest in the matter. Regulations passed at the time of the last war nave not been repealed, and the soldiers of that war, by the intelligent use of the vote, that the fanatics have tried to deprive them of, saved this countiy from the curse of prohibition. At the last general election that this ?} a ) ter came before the people of N.Z., they, by an overwhelming ' decided for continuance. Of those who voted for prohibition, we believe, only an intolerant minority wish to have its will imposed on the country without a mandate the people. The Rev. E. T 9^' s .J^ ls , us that £25,000,000 has been 2 hquor since the outno S war - Will he inform FalrSn °A thiS total has been tfmf f Government in taxation for war effort and social security, etc.? DEMOCRAT.
