MELBOURNE, August 18 When plans for the British Sten sub-machine gun reached Australia someone went to work oh them and made modifications which reduced the number of parts so that the complete gun could be made in any suburban garage for 35/. Australia's first two letters were added to the ww? > e gun became the Austen. When it was tested with the Thompson sub-machine gun, the Sten and the Australian Owen it an^ 6 ]vS ro w w th flying col °urs, t' t Wasserman, United States Lease-Lend expert in Aust]Taha,. who was present, saw its possibilities, and when he left for home he took one with him, sacrificing some of his clothing to get it into his regulation air kit baf. • a already in production ;J} Australia, but Mr. Wasserman has ideas of United States co-operation in mass production in Australia fo? the troops of both countries.
