NEWSPRINT SHORTAGE
REDUCTIONS IN STAR PAGES
No shipments of newsprint from America have reached New Zealand since some months before America entered the war. It has therefore again become necessary to 8 reduce the number of pages in the Auckland Star in or.der to conserve existing stocks and thus ensure continuity of publication while awaiting the arrival of fresh supplies. Successive reductions have brought the paper down from 125 pages in September, 1938, when restrictions upon importation were first imposed to 48 pages from last June. From to-day the number of pages per week will be 42.
A further heavy cut in advertising has been enforced upon the newspaper in order to achieve even this small maximum.
