RESPONSE IMPROVING
DRIVE FOR WASTE RUBBER
The response of householders to the city-wide drive for waste rubber, which is being organised by the Junior Chamber or Commerce in conjunction with the Auckland municipal engineer's department, while still leaving much to be desired, had improved considerably this week on the poor results of last week, stated a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce this morning. "Several tons of good scrap rubber of all descriptions from bath mats to bathing caps has been collected by the refuse cars during the week," he said. Auckland citizens are asked again to search their homes this week-end from bagement to attic for any articles of rubber, which they are asked to leave bieside their dust bins on next collection day. "The Star has already published detailed lists of the forms in which rubber Is found in Auckland homes," he concluded, "and a careful scrutiny of these lists will assist considerably when the search for rubber is made. Rubber old and new is vital to the United Nations' war effort."
