A CAPITAL CITY
Many years ago, when an extensive fire occurred in the Parliamentary Buildings, a letter was written to this paper suggesting that a new site should be selected for a capital city for New Zealand. The idea was taken up all through the country and was favourably and extensively discussed in the House—l think it was the late Mr. Ell who took a prominent part. To-day the question should -be given further consideration. Wellington, where people live cramped, miserable and stunted lives, can never become a proper city owing to its extreme lack of space and its environment. There are plenty of fine sites that could be selected in the Rangitikei, where a beautiful garden city could be laid out. Wellington will always remain a busy port and a developing industrial centre, so that the change would have little effect on the value of property. EX-WELLINGTONIAN.
