ROUSING WELCOME

RETURNED MEN OF A.I.F. " THEY XEVER FALTERED" (0.C.) SYDNEY, August 15. A rousing welcome was given by relatives this week to men of a famous A.I.E. battalion, returned to Australia, who left with the first convoy and have been in every Middle East campaign—Libya, Crete, Greece and Syria, where thev have left many of their fallen comrades. "We were as proud as hell when we saw them walking into action nonchalantly with cigarettes or pipes in their mouths," said one officer. "They never faltered at any time in face of the enemy." Among stories told by the officers of their men was one about a Sergeant Copeman, who in Syria, finding that no grenades were available, grabbed a revolver from a dead officer, jumped on to an advancing enemy tank and silenced it by firing the revolver through the slits.
