CLUBS AND SOCIETIES
Pemvomen's Club. —An address entitled "Through Literature to Life" was given at the clubrooms by Mr. W. H. Garry. The president. Mrs. Una Craig, presided. A current events discussion was held earlier in the afternoon, Miss Irene Rutherford presiding.
P. and T. Women.—To raise funds to send Christmas parcels to boys on service overseas, the Post and Telegraph Women's League held a paddy's market. It took place in the Gaiety Hall, and was opened by Mrs. C. Clark, patroness. A baby show roused keen interest, and the stalls did brisk business, resulting in a considerable sum being raised.
Grey Lynn Croquet.—At the annual meeting the following officers were elected:—Patroness. Mrs. McIvor; president. Mrs. Wakefield; vicepresident. Mrs. Shaw; hon. secretary, Mrs. Mudd; treasurer. Mrs. Newton; auditor, Mr. Newton; tea convener. Mrs. Hawley: committee. Mesdames Prince. Buckley and Caddy; match committee. Mesdames Rose, Shaw and Corston; delegates to the Auckland Croquet Association, Mesdames Wakefield and Mudd.
Backward Children's Institute. The annual meeting of the Institute for the Care of Backward Children was held in the school. Belgium Street. The president, Miss B. Carnachan. presided. The annual report presented by the secretary, stated that the school roll number was 46. and that steady progress was being made. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Miss B. Carnachan; vice-presi-dent. Mrs. S. E. Kenning?: 1 hon secretary. Miss F. Waddinsjhanv hon. treasurer, Mrs. J. C. Gullivercommittee. Mesdames J. \V. lioliis J. G. Hopkins. R. E. Dowding, Misses E. Goldsworthy, K. Kennedy R Mahon, N. Martin and M. Muir.'
