TWO WOUNDED
YOUTH AND SISTER MURDER ATTEMPT CHARGE CP.A.) GISBORNE, this day. Following a happening at Whangara, about 20 miles from Gisborne, a young man and young woman are in hospital suffering from gunshot wounds and a youth has been arrested on a charge of attempted murder. The victims of the shooting are lan Fraser, aged 18, wounded in the thigh, and his sister, Margaret Fraser, aged 22, a slight wound in the arm. They are the son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. Fraser, of Whangara, who are at present in Auckland. It is alleged that lan Fraser was riding a horse along a track leading to the homestead when a doublebarrelled shotgun was fired, the charge lodging in Fraser's thigh. When his sister ran out to investigate, it is alleged, the other barrel was discharged, Miss Fraser receiving shots in an arm. Miss Fraser returned to the houce and telephoned a neighbour and the police. The neighbour took the two victims to hospital and the police on arrival found a youth waiting for them and ready to give a full account of what occurred. This morning Thomas Patrick Bell, a cowboy, appeared before Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., charged with attempting to murder Miss Fraser. On the application of the police he was remanded to June 16.
Detective-Sergeant Waterson said two people were in hospital witn fairly serious wounds. Accused would be 17 years of age next month
