UNITED NATIONS DAY
BIG PARADES PLANNED DOMINION ARRANGEMENTS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sunday. Arrangements for military parades on the largest and most comprehensive scale as part of the ceremonies marking United Nations Day are announced by the Prime Minister. Mr. Fraser. He said these would be held on Saturday, June 13, when people would have an opportunity in the larger centres to watch units of ali services. The parades would be on the largest scale so far organised in this country. They would include the latest types of machines and weapons brought to the Dominion for strengthening our defences. "Flag Day, which will be held in the United States on June 14. is the day on which the American people honour their (lag as the emblem of their freedom, strength and unity." i 1 Mr. Fraser, "and this year the Amt ican people have been invited by President Roosevelt to honour aino the Tags of those States who signed the United Nations declaration of January 1, 1042. "The United Kingdom Government has announced it also is desirous oi arranging a similar tribute to the flags of all those valiant peoples who arc fighting with them in tne cause of freedom, and suitable arrangements are being made for ceremonies for this purpose to be held on June 1 1 throughout the United Kingdom and in other portions of 'he Uriti:;h Commonwealth in honour of I'nit'.d Nations Day. In New Zealand il ha:: been decided that the dale shall he June 1.'1." Mr. Fraser quoted from the text of Mr, Roosevelt's proclamation to the peoples of the United States to observe Flag Day this year. . "Since the President's proclamation was issued Mexico must be added,to the list of United Nations," said Mr. Fraser. "I feel sure the people of New Zealand will enthusiastically welcome this opportunity of paying a tribute to all our gallant Allies in this great struggle for world freedom."
