AIRMAN'S PROMOTION
PILOT-OFFICER S. G. HORXER
Cabled advice has been received bv Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Horner. 8. Northland Street, Grey Lynn, thai their son. Stanley George (Stan) has gained his commission as pilot-officer in the R.A.F. He was educated at the Grey Lynn School and Seddor Memorial Technical College, anc later joined the staff of New Zealanc Steel Tank and ripe Company. Pen rose. At 23 years of age he got hi: wings, and left for overseas ir August, 1041.
A keen yachtsman, Stan was one of the crew of the yacht Waione, and a member of the Point Chevalier Sailing Club and the Royal Akarana Yacht Squadron. He also took part in field sports, playing cricket in the Suburban Association senior grade with the Waterworks team, and Soccer football with the MetroCollege team, in which his versatility made him the handyman of the side. He also played Rugby League football with the Point Chevalier team.
