WAR GOODS PILE UP

Allies 1 Great Need Of More

Ships

AMERICA'S VAST PRODUCTION

(Rec. 2 p.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, May 15

Rear-Admiral Greenslade, Commandant of the Twelfth Naval District, told 12,000 shipyard workers to-day that the Allies lost the Philippines and Singapore because they lacked ships, and he issued a warning that "we may lose Australia and Alaska for the same reason."

Admiral Greenslade said 40,000 trucks were standing at a single east coast port waiting for ships, and war goods were piling up at the docks on both coasts because shipping was insufficient. Victory or defeat at present resolved itself into a simple mathematical pattern. Could they build ships fast enough to replace those sunk and at the same time have a large enough margin to carry vital supplies to American forces abroad?

Admiral Greenslade said that at one inland plant 30,000 combat vehicles were waiting for shipment.
