INCREASING STRAIN
WORK OP RED CROSS A large and progressive increase in the amount of work involved, accompanied by a decreasing number of male voluntary workers available for such work, was reported at the annual meeting of the Auckland provincial committee of the Order of St. John and the Red Cross Society, last night. The annual report of the chairman, Sir Ernest Davis, stated that military hospital patients and prisoners of war were the two main cares of the joint council and the number of these had, of course, greatly increased, so that a heavy strain was being placed on both their physical energies and their financial resources.
In order to speed up the dispatch of business in such circumstances, reported Sir Ernest, the council had decided to set up a standing committee to meet monthly between the quarterly meetings of the provincial council. To clarify the North Auckland administration, it was decided that the Northland joint sub-commit-tee should include the Hokianga, Whangaroa, Mangonui and Bay of Islands districts with headquarters at Kaikohe.
