CLUBS AND SOCIETIES

North cote Women. — At the monthly meeting of the Northeote Women's Progressive League the members were unanimous in supporting the various women's societies in their endeavour to reduce prices of foodstuffs. A talk on Ceylon was given by Mr. D. Hebcnton. As shown by the Red Cross report, an unusually large number of knitted articles had been made.

Penwotnen's Club.—A travel talk on Algiers was given by Mrs. Bradstreet at the Penwomen's Club. Specimens of Arab work in jewellery and enamel, hide leather and specimens of their carpets were displayed. In the absence of the president, Mrs. H. Griffiths, Mrs. W. Osborne presided. At the drama circle meeting a playette was presented by Mesdames W. Gray. E. Wood. Hamilton, U. Craig, Wiseman and E. Schmitt.

Mount Eden Rod Cross.—The annual meeting of the Mount Eden subcentre of the Red Cross Society was presided over by Mr. T. McCready. The report indicated that classes of home nursing, first aid and hygiene had been successfully completed. The following officers were elected: —President, Dr. F. Smale; vicepresidents. Dr. Murray Heycock, Mr. A. Richards, M.P.; chairman, Mr. T. McCready; treasurer, Miss M. Watkin; organiser, Mrs. A. Cassie; secretary, Mrs. D. Derig; committee, Mrs. E. Paul, Mrs. E. Johnstone, Mrs. M. McClymont, Miss B. Ryan. Miss E. Carter, Miss 15. Paul, Miss J. Adcock, Miss C. Ramsay.

Air Force Knitters.—The committee of Air Force Relations who have done such splendid work in organising knitting for the air force are anxious to have more helpers as, owing to the increase in the air force, many more garments will be needed for the winter. Expert glove knitters are specially needed. In future A.F.R. will be distributing wool and receiving garments in a room in Mackenzie's Building, Queen Street. The new premises are part of the offices of the Air Training Cadet Corps.

P. and T. Women.—The Post and Telegraph Women's League held their monthly meeting in the New Women's Club rooms. Mrs. S. Lambie presided over a good attendance. Several new members were enrolled.
