WHITE FEATHERS
MEN IN MIDDLE EAST
"ACTION OP LUNATICS" (0.C.) SYDNEY, May 13. Some A.I.P. officers recently returned to Australia support what seemed an incredible statement by the official Australian War correspondent, Kenneth Slessor, that men still in the Middle East had received white feathers from folks at home. Describing this action as that of a lunatic, the new State Secretary of the Returned Soldiers' League Lieutenant Cutler, V.C., pointed out that the men had enlisted to fight anywhere at a time when the war was not taken very seriously in Australia, and had taken part in many hard campaigns around the Mediterranean. It seems incredible that anyone should not realise that these men are now most anxious to return to defend Australia but, being in the army, must remain where they are ordered.
