SOLDIER'S DRINK
MILK PROVES POPULAR
"Milk sales have been running about twice the sales of beer." This statement appeared in a report concerning milk in the Australian Army submitted to this morning's meeting of the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council. The report contained extracts from an article published in the Australian Milk and Dairy Products Journal of March. It said that United States soldiers were receiving fresh milk for the first time since the Revolutionary War. More than 350,000 quarts a day were providing American soldiers with the best possible diet. One pint a day was the ration. Of that quantity the soldier received half a pint a day for drinking and the balance in his cooked food.
"Interesting that milk sales topped the beer sales," said Mr. H. P. Burton.
"I wish we could sell twice as much milk in New Zealand as beer," commented Mr. C. J. Lovegrove.
