STAGGERING TASK
Mobilising U.S. Manpower For
War Industries
ADDITIONAL 10,500,000 WORKERS
Rec. 12.30 WASHINGTON, May 6.
Mr. Paul McNutt, Chairman of the War Manpower Commission, addressing a Federal and State conference on war restrictions said the United States faced the supreme test of mobilising an additional 10,500,000 workers this year for war industry, thus more than doubling the labour sudplv. The present number employed is about 9,000,000. Largescale migrations of war workers into war industry centres would be necessary. It would be a staggering problem of manpower to equip the huge United States army with the best planes, gurs and ships.
