LEYS INSTITUTE
INCREASE IN SUBSCRIBERS
The annual report of the management committee of the Leys Institute, to be presented at the 37th annual meeting on Wednesday next, states that work has been carried on satisfactorily in spite of war difficulties.
The number of active subscribers showed an increase of 103 over last year, mainly in the juvenile department, of which the total is now 407.
Books issued showed a substantial increase, the daily average now being 300. With blackout regulations there had been a noticeable decrease in the number of people using the reference library during the evenings, but a considerable increase during the day. Of these, 3108 have consulted books dealing with fine arts, 2212 with useful arts and 2746 with travel.
The total of books now available in all departments is 43,757.
Appreciation for the following donations is expressed:—Sir Cecil Leys £179, Government Statistician £1, S. Lewis £1 and R.N.Z.A.F. £2.
