Senior Trial For Otahuhu XIII., But No Military Side
The scheme to limit the number of teams in the Auckland Rugby League's senior competition this season was further complicated last evening, when the board of control received team nominations. The chairman. Mr. J. W. Watson, said during the discussion: "It is not so importaant to have a crowd on Saturday next, as to find out what is the calibre of the players." This statement was made when referring to leaving thy M mukau side out of the draw this vc..c. Some members urged that the best teams be matched. It was decided, however, to omit Manukau. The nomination from a military team from the motor transport pool was refused. After the preliminary round on Saturday a further reduction will be made to seven teams. It was agreed that Otahuhu should have a try-out for senior honours, the club having sent in a list of 25 players, most of them being engaged in essential trades. The junior control board ad\ ised that the following officers had been appointed: —Chairman, Mr. E. Chapman: deputy chairman. Mr. C. Howe: secretary. Mr. \V. F. Clarke. Mr. Chapman was appointed as delegate to the senior board. The Referees' Association advised that Mr. M. Renton had been elected as depute to Mr. P. Rogers on the Referees' Appointments Board.
