AMERICAN MISSION

Visit To London Normal War Procedure MUNITIONS PRODUCTION Rec. 11 a.m. WASHINGTON, April 8. The White House Secretary, Mr. Stephen Early, explained that the visit to London of General Marshall, Chief of the United States Army Staff, and Mr. Harry Hopkins, LeaseLend administrator, is "a perfectly normal wartime mission." The War Department has withheld comment for the present. Replying to an interviewer's question in London as to whether he was satisfied with the arrangements in Australia, General Marshall said: "We are never satisfied, but we are busy. I think things are being organised there in excellent shape." General Marshall and Mr. Hopkins plunged into talks with Mr. Churchill immediately after their arrival. Mr. Hopkins explained that he came to London to see Mr. Oliver Lyttelton in order to relate Mr. Lyttelton's new Ministerial duties with the appropriate Washington Department. He will also discuss with Mr. Churchill matters that Mr. Roosevelt entrusted to him. Mr. Hopkins said that American production since the entry into the war had been considerably stepped up. Supplies for Russia were moving very rapidly and in some instances America had already sent the agreed amounts. "We are sending munitions everywhere in the world where Germans and Japanese can be killed," he added.
