HIGGINBOTHAM AND CARBINES
PONSONBY PAIR WINS THE CENTRE BOWLING TITLE
Only one of the three matches played at Carlton on Saturday In the last stages of the Auckland Bowling Centre's pairs championship produced the semblance of a contest, as the victorious Ponsonby team (F. O. Carbines and R. S. Higginbotham) won t>oth its games by double figures. Curiously enough, the scores were identical although the actual final did not go the full distance.
In one semi-final, however, the decision was delayed until an extra head had been played, and then it took the 12th bowl to settle the argument. The scores were:— Semi-Finals F. O. Carbines and R. S. Higginbotham (Ponsonby) beat L. G. Donaldson and J. S. Martin (Carlton), 21 —11. L. Pitkethley and L. J. Keys (Auckland) beat J. C. Duncan and F. L. Taylor (Remuera), 19—18. Final Carbines and Higginbotham beat Pitkethley and Keys, 21-11 (the losers retired after the 20th head).
