GAY ROSETTE

FRANKLIN CUP

BRONZE ROYAL WINS

TE RAPA RESULTS

The autumn meeting of the Franklin Racing Club was held to-day on the Te Rapa course in excellent weather and in the presence of a large attendance. The track was hard and fast.

Quination, which showed encouraging form at the Matamata meeting, won well after hitting the front half a mile from home in the Waiuku Hack Handicap. Prince Louis and Lady Vixen had their prospects extinguished at the start through being badly left, while Hine-iti was slow to move. Bright Lady led in the early part, and along the back was in charge from Opuatia, Royal Sister and King Dick. Quination hit the front at the half-mile, and, after leading into the straight from Bright Lady and Bronzo, carried on to withstand the challenge or the favourite, Bronzo, and beat him by a length. Opuatia was three-quarters of a length away third, with Loch Acre fourth, and Hine-iti, King Dick and Lady Vixen next. The Hurdlers k Suited by the distance. Besiege, which has shown consistent form in recent starts, held on to win the Puni Hurdles from Maxown and the improving Small Boy, which came from well back to finish in the money. Cappy led early, but as the back stretch was reached Besiege had been taken through to the front and the favourite led from Kaimanawa, Cappy, Small Boy, Stokowski and Gael. Besiege and Kaimanawa were just in front of Maxown at the straight entrance and after the last fence had been cleared, which Kaimanawa risked and Maxown ran down, Besiege went on to win by a length and a half from Maxown, with Small Boy four lengths away Stokowski was fourth, followed by Cappy, Kaimanawa and Etaro.

Favourite's Chance Spoiled

There was some delay at the start of the Bombay Handicap through several horses breaking through the tapes. The favourite, Water Vixen, completed the course before she was pulled up, and Noble Eagle went three furlongs before he was under control. Bronze Royal, which, fittingly enough, is owned and trained at Pukekohe, won attractively after hitting the front within a couple of furlongs. He was lying second to Dart Gold at the half-mile, and this pair led into the straight from Bulmin, The Alibi, Silver Note, Naini Tal and Royal Musk. In the straight Bronze Royal drew away and went on to win by half a length from Dart Gold, with Bulmin a short head away. Auto Lass was fourth, and then followed Funny Fox and Bramble Song* which appeared to collide at the home turn. ' WAIUKU BACK HANDICAP of £140. Serea furlenn. S—S—QUOTATION, br g.
