GREATER DEMANDS
FOR SICK AND WOUNDED
Greatly increased demands on the Sick and Wounded Fund were foreshadowed by Major J. Abel at a meeting of the Joint Council of the Order of St. John and the Red Cross Society last night.
Speaking as treasurer, Major Abel said that expenditure might easily be doubled by reason of the increased number of New Zealand prisoners and by hospital and medioal cases arising out of the large mobilisation of home defence troops. The fund at present was being called on to provide for about 6000 prisoners, and a call was being made for equipment for three military hospitals in connection with the home services.
