Lionel Thompson, well known in swimming and life-saving circles, has been promoted to the rank or pilot-officer. He was a member of the Waitemata Life Saving Club, and also a member of the board of water judges for surf examination. Last season Pilot-Officer Thompson was one of the Waitemata senior A water polo team which won the championship. He saved the life of a man wHo fell into a well at Orakei. in ' 1937.
