Mr. Nash's Appeal For War

Equipment

" NEEDS MORE URGENT"

WASHINGTON, February 22. The New Zealand Minister to Washington, the Hon. W. Nash, speaking over the radio, urged the United States to send more aeroplanes, tanks and war equipment to g. New Zealand immediately. I "We realise that the defence of " our shores is first and foremost our own responsibility," said Mr. Nash. "We appreciate what our friends in the United States and Britain have already provided for New Zealand's defence, but our needs are more urgent than ever. "Our appeals for assistance are not prompted by selfish fears for our personal fortunes, but rather by our firm belief that the war in ' the Pacific will be long and hard and that from the general strategic viewpoint the successful defence of NewZealand is of vital importance."
