MARKET QUIET

AUSTRALIAN' UNCERTAINTY

Except for gilt-edged issues, the tone was quiet and weak on the Auckland Stock Exchange to-day. Support for insurances was slacker, and buyers' bids for Dominion shares were mainly at closing levels.

Sharebrokers are still awaiting advice concerning the dealing in Australian shares held in this country. Mr. Andrew Hamilton, chairman of the Stock Exchanges' Association of New Zealand, has forwarded the following cabie to the chairman of the Sydney Stock Exchange: "Would you ascertain on our behalf if the regulations prohibiting dealings in Australia apply also to dealings here between New Zealand sellers and buyers in Australian shares already listed here? If the regulations are not intended to apply outside Australia, will proyision be made to enable registration of sales here? We would appreciate early advice as trading has been suspended in the meantime."
