CAPTAIN AITKEN
BELIEVED WAR PRISONER
Captain A. D. Aitken, who is reported missing in Libya, believed prisoner, is the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Aitken, late of Bayswater. He attended Takapuna Grammar School, later taking his dental diploma in Dunedin. After finishing
his training, he took up practice with Mr. Mackenzie, of Levin. He was there till the outbreak of war, being then transferred to Papakura dental hospital. Last February he was sent overseas, holding the rank of lieutenant, but was later given charge of the 6th Field Ambulance and promoted to the rank of captain. His father, well known to Aucklanders as a sailor of the sailing ship days, related many exciting experiences, some of which are detailed in Sir Henry Brett's book, "White Wings." Mr. Aitken, sen., was for many years mate of the Takapuna, but was compelled through illness to retire, and is now residing with Mrs. Aitken at Levin. Captain Aitken's sister is Mrs. R. J.
