FIFTH COLUMN ACTIVITY
LONDON, Dec. 23. Washington states that Japanese fifth columnists in the Hawaiian Islands had provided the enemv with valuable information. The'v were mainly confined to Japanese residents. The remainder of the population is loyal to the United States. It has been established that there was no fifth column activity among the army, the navy and air force at Hawaii.
The authorities have interned 273 aliens. of the population °J[ 420.000. Japanese subjects or Japanese ancestry number 160,000, of whom 35,000 are aliens.
